Our series on the changes that you can expect to see when you upgrade to version 7 of SugarCRM continues with this post about the ListView layout. The version 7 interface includes changes to many of the standard layouts used throughout SugarCRM, and the ListView layout is no exception. This layout is used when you are viewing a list of data within a module. When viewing a list of records in version 7, the module ListView will use a layout similar to what is shown below.

The former (6.x) list functionality now takes up two-thirds of the screen, with the remaining area turned into the new intelligence pane. This user-configurable, context-sensitive area is used to display Dashboards and Previews, and provides similar functionality to many analytics tools. The intelligence pane can also be hidden when not in use to enable a full-screen list view.

The list area of the layout remains sortable by clicking on any column header. Also, users can select which columns to display on screen, based on fields enabled by the administrator, by clicking in the ellipsis area to the right of the column headers.

Mass actions are available by selecting several records, using the checkboxes on each row, and then clicking the down arrow next to the checkbox in the header row. Available actions include Mass Update, Add To Target List (in appropriate modules), Merge, Delete, and Export. The Merge tool now supports merging up to five records at a time, with a side-by-side comparison to select the data to be saved.

There is also an action button at the right end of each row with row-level actions. The displayed icon, which looks like an eye, is used to preview. Click to display information from that record in the intelligence pane area.

Also available from the row-level action button is the ability to edit, follow, or delete that record. Clicking edit will enable inline editing of the displayed fields, so that you no longer have to open the record to update information. The Follow command is related to enhanced activity stream functionality available in Sugar 7.

The basic and advanced searches have been replaced with a new search filtering tool. More information about searching changes will be discussed in an upcoming post.

Next to the search bar, a toggle switch allows you to switch between the list view and activity stream view. Whichever you have viewed last will display by default when you navigate to this screen again.

Our next post will look at how the RecordView layout has experienced similar changes. Subscribe to our blog to automatically receive our newest posts! For more information about how to upgrade to version 7, download our free white paper.
